B&w portraits

"Our lives at times seem a study in contrast... love and hate, birth and death, right and wrong... everything seen in absolutes of black and white. Too often we are not aware that it is the shades of gray that add depth and meaning to the starkness of those extremes"

Ansel Adams

This is one of my favorite quotes by Ansel Adams, a photographer I have always looked up to. In these shoots, I wanted to explore the depth of emotion that can be captured in black and white photography through the use of shadow, highlight, expression, and tone. Without the distraction of color, I think that the presence of emotion, contrast, and depth in a photo becomes increasingly stark.
